This is an vintage Japanese mid Showa Era (c. 1950) wooden statue of one of the seven gods of luck, Daikoku. He is well rendered here a bag of riches on his back. He is all hand carved out of Japanese cryptomeria wood. There is a signature on the bottom (see picture of the Japanese carver,  (translation upcoming).

This antique Hotei statue measures 9" (23 cm) tall by 8" wide and long (20 cm). Having been displayed lovingly for over 70 years it remains in fine condition.
